Is the training manufacturer approved?
Yes, it is. It, therefore, complies with IMO and Flag State requirements for such approval.

Do I get a valid certificate?
Yes, if you passed the final test you will get a valid certificate from Safebridge that is manufacturer approved.

Is the training IMO and Flag State approved?
The IMO and the Flag States do not approve type-specific training courses. Flag States issue their individual guidelines for ECDIS training, where most of them require that the trainer and the course content are manufacturer approved. Safebridge has full manufacturer approval for all courses.

Is the training also generic?
No, it is not. An IMO Model 1.27 training is a prerequisite to taking the Safebridge type-specific familiarisation course

Is the certificate acceptable to the controlling authorities?
The interpretation of the requirements for type-specific training is determined by your Flag State. The courseware is manufacturer approved and the certificate, therefore, contains the manufacturer logo and the details of the equipment covered. Your name, date of birth and nationality also appear on the certificate.

How can Port State control or other authorities verify the validity of the certificate?
Safebridge maintains a candidate and certification database, which will be accessible to the relevant authorities via a QR code on the certificate to our online database.

How can I be certain that my identity is clearly established?
We currently require that either a webcam is activated or a ‘proctor’ is present during the final test, in order to confirm the identity of the candidate. The individual concerned needs can be stated in advance. This is part of the booking process.

How can i be certain that my personal data is protected?
Personal data provided is solely for the purpose of establishing identity and allowing subsequent verification of identity (name, date of birth and nationality). Only you or your employer will have access to all data provided.

How is a Safebridge course structured?
The Safebridge courseware is organised in modules and follows the competencies of the IMO Model 1.27 course, but takes the candidate through each discipline, using the display and controls of the actual ECDIS equipment chosen.

How long does the training take?
The content would be covered in ±16 hours, but the candidate has a period of 3 weeks to complete the course and test.

Is there a final test?
Yes, there is an online test. In the Safebridge learning mask, there are 3 modes: “GuideMe”, “FreePlay” and “TestMe”. The “TestMe” mode will start on the final test.

How and where do I take the final test?
Upon completion of the course, the “TestMe” feature is activated and you can enter this mode just like you entered the “GuideMe” mode for training. To ensure that the identity of the candidate is correctly established, a webcam is required. The webcam should be kept activated and you should be visible throughout the final test. Alternatively, Safebridge may nominate a proctor who is present during the exam. The proctor could be a fleet or training manager. Please contact us for this service. You can take the test online.

How long does the test take?
Testing is expected to take about 60 minutes. The ability of the candidate is determined by the nature of the randomly selected test questions and, to a minor extent, by the status of the internet connection.

What happens when I have passed the test?
You will be informed immediately that you have passed. Before we issue your certificate, we validate your identity by cross-checking your ID document and the webcam images. When the validation is successful, we issue your manufacturer approved certificate by e-mail to your company or to you if you have booked as a private individual.

What happens if I fail the test?
You will be able to retake the test, as you are eligible for 2 test attempts per 24 hours. The next test will contain a completely different set of questions.

Is webcam capability required?
It is required only if you choose webcam authentication as your preferred form of verification for the final exam.

What do I have to consider when i undergo the training at the office or on the vessel?
When doing the training at the office or on the vessel, you should ask the IT Admin whether they use a proxy server or a restrictive firewall. If this is the case, please request the IT Admin to set up the below-stated exceptions in the network. Otherwise, some modules such as GuideMe, FreePlay or TestMe might be unavailable. IP 62.96.143.43 For all connection entries, allow traffic on TCP ports 80, 443 and 6800. Can I use mobile internet for training?
It is possible. Please note, however, that the connection via mobile internet is highly unstable. We strongly recommend to use a wired internet connection.

Is it possible to train on board whilst at sea?
Yes, it is possible to train on board. Please be aware that the computer on board still has to match the system requirements. The available internet connection could be an issue though and may cause great latencies. This might cause the training course to run slowly.

What if I have less than 10Mbit/second bandwith?
The refresh rate of the nautical charts will be slow and the user must wait until the complete chart has been refreshed before proceeding.
