ECDIS Basics, covers the lack of knowledge in general navigation with an objective to impart practical hands-on knowledge about the most common features and functionality of ECDIS. The training course has been based on the book “ECDIS Basics” written by Prof. Ralph Becker-Heins.
This is the first training course created for officers who are looking for an easy-to-follow supplement or refresher to the IMO generic course (IMO Model Course 1.27) and anyone requiring knowledge of the general features of ECDIS.

About the author
The latest Safebridge course is based on the book “ECDIS Basics” by Prof. Ralph Becker-Heins. The author is a Professor of Navigation at the University of Applied Sciences in Bremen and has been appointed Honorary Professor of Navigation at the Kherson State Maritime Institute. Prof. Ralph Becker-Heins previously served in the German Navy and the merchant marine, reaching the rank of master before coming ashore to assume the role of crew manager in one of the major ship management companies.
